What is Project 333 Capsule Wardrobe?

Project 333 is the minimalist fashion challenge that invites you to dress with 33 items or less for 3 months. It is the brainchild of Courtney Carver of blog bemorewithless.com

The 33 items does not include underwear, uniforms or sports wear.

Your other items of clothing are packed away for use in the next 3 months or you may decide that they are surplus to requirement.

My Plan

I am going to use this through the summer months July/Aug/Sept as I have only a handful of summer items that fit (My weight has increased due to inactivity and taking permanent steroid medication)

Throughout the summer I am hoping to be able to be a little more active, (I also suffer from COPD) and eat more salads, vegetables and fruit and lose a little of the extra weight. As I am intending to lose weight I do not want to spend more money than necessary on new clothes so this project has come at just the right time for me as I hope it will help me dress well with a fewer number of clothes.

The Dress with Less Micro Course I purchased from Courtney Carver starts by asking on day One:

“What are your 3 Favourite outfits?”

From your 3 favourite outfits what is it that you like, the colour? Fit?

This will help you when it comes to replacing items in your wardrobe. Find out what you really like and more importantly what makes you feel good.

The course then tells you to look at your lifestyle and what clothes you actually need.

My life has been turned upside down with illness in the past four years and the life that I was leading i.e. going out to work, walking, sports are now not possible so my clothing needs to change to fit my life now.

Action

The next days are spent sorting through all your clothes into three piles Love, Throw or Maybe.

For some clothing the decision is quick it no longer fits, looks worn or is just not now suitable for the way I live. Others it is harder an item bought for an occasion etc. In many ways it was difficult to let go of some clothing for although my brain knows it’s not possible for me to go back to work, outside the home, throwing the suits etc away makes it more a permanent decision. I must admit the process did upset me, it’s like one life has ended.

My 33 Items

Trousers: 7

Tops: 12

Jackets: 2

Cardigans: 2

Bags: 2

Scarves: 2

Shoes/Sandals: 4

Jewellery: (not including rings), 2

TOTAL: 33 items

This is my clothing list for going out etc and does not include underwear, nightwear etc

My other clothing/jewellery is packed away for three months.

Replacing/Exchanging

If something wears out or becomes not suitable i.e. because of the weather changing then it is okay to replace the item as long as it is one in and one out. The rule is to try to keep the changes to a minimum.

Benefits of this challenge are: less time choosing clothes in the morning, less time shopping making more time to make memories with life experiences and removing clutter can help with your mental health.

July

Managed very well with my 33 items, mixed weather so my summer/autumn wardrobe worked well. Will update on August and Septembers progress.

If this works then I will be looking to try it again for the next three months October/November/December.

So the question is:

Would you be willing to try this for 3 months?
